We purchased a house in Olmos Park in September of 2019 that we knew
would be a total gut with a new addition. Having previously renovated
several historic homes in Galveston we thought we knew what to expect.
Our original plan was to act as our own general contractor as we had
previously done. We hired a demolition contractor to completely gut the
house back to the bare studs and remove an old addition and foundation.
After that things came to a halt, being new to the San Antonio area we
couldn’t get subcontractors for the various trades to return our calls or
give reasonable bids. At that point we decided to change course and hire
a builder that had their own subs or employees that would be capable of
rebuilding the house to our expectations and standards.
We interviewed several builders that had been recommended to us, and
went to projects to see the level of quality and workmanship in their
homes. The decision was made to have Dave Isaacs Homes do the
renovation. In February 2020 Daves crews started construction on the new
foundation and addition. Work never stopped until the house was finished
and turned over to us in July of 2020. All of the work was done during the
worst part of the Covid Pandemic.
Working with Dave and his people was the right decision. His employees
and subcontractors worked us from start to finish to ultimately give us the
home we wanted. There will always be challenges in a major renovation
project because of the scope of work and the different trades involved,
but Dave and his crews were very responsive and worked with us to keep
the job moving.
The project ended up being exactly what we wanted and we are very
pleased with the final results.
